The Night Agent (2023)

This time, instead of focusing as usual on supernatural and sci-fi dramas, I opted to review the brand new Netflix hit series The Night Agent, which follows the misadventures of FBI agent Peter Sutherland as he tries to uncover a sinister plot going on at the White House, while at the same time protecting an eyewitness related to the special agents who died following the same trail he did, though given his determination stemming from his past history with the Bureau, things might turn out in his favor.

This is a story revolving around the typical “goody-two-shoes” protagonist trying to find corruption in the very same authority through which he swore to protect his country and, although it is a very noble act for which he should be praised, it also rendered him naive to the point that he didn't initially realize that in order for the United States to work properly, the federal government, most of the time, has to get its hands dirty, or simply “look the other way,” when a significant danger that could damage the reputation of the feds and, by extension, the Vice President, is occurring.

This show can be interpreted as it having a controversial nature, in that despite the government’s sole reason for being created in the first place is to maintain peace, law and order throughout the States, it does mostly by having corrupt members on the inside who can twist the inner machinations to favor their schemes. This is basically the on-screen interpretation of what has been going on for decades, that stability is maintained through the system being irremediably rotten, as for the end of season 1 and the beginning of Peter’s journey as the eponymous character, we will just have to wait and see, until next time.
